The tests are designed to extract information about a candidate to determine the following:
· Is the candidate suitable to proceed to a face-to-face interview; and
· What types of questions should be asked in the face-to-face interview.
For example: If the psychometric testing determines that a candidate has poor leadership skills, the face-to-face interview questions will be focused on how the candidate has shown leadership in the past.
Psychometric tests are not like tests taken in high school or university. They aim to measure a candidate’s abstract, verbal and numerical reasoning skills whilst applying time pressure. To be successful a candidate should practice these types of tests to become more comfortable with the format and style of testing.
